Strategic Partnerships Good for Service Delivery - CJ

The Judiciary will continue to engage in a number of strategic partnerships so as to improve justice delivery to Ugandans, the Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Bart M. Katureebe, said on Friday October 5, 2018.

"A lot can be achieved from strategic partnerships," said the chief justice at the Judiciary headquarters soon after receiving, on behalf of the Judiciary, a distinguished Award from the Uganda Revenue Authority.

He cautioned the public not to misunderstand the partnerships: "For us, these are in the interest of delivering justice to Ugandans, and we are willing to partner with everyone, and as such, this partnership should not be misunderstood.

The Judiciary was declared winner of the "URA Commissioner General's Award for the Best Government Agency and Strategic Partner for the 2017/18 FY" during the 13th Taxpayers Appreciation Awards at Kololo independence grounds on September 28, 2018.

While handing over the Award on Friday September 28, 2018 at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala,URA's Ag. Commissioner General, Mr Patrick Mukiibi, said Judiciary received one of the most prestigious honours in any given financial year.

Mr Mukiibi, who moved hand-in-hand with Ms Patience Rubagumya (Commissioner Legal Affairs), Ms Sarah Birungi Banage (Commissioner General's Office) and Mr Ian Rumanyika (Public& Corporate Affairs Manager), equally praised the role of partnerships."Forging partnerships such as the one with the Judiciary helps us do our work better," said URA's Mr. Mukiibi.

The Chief Justice thanked the URA for recognizing the partnership. He said, through the partnership, the Judicial Training Institute (JTI), was able to conduct a number of specialized training sessions for judicial officers and selected URA staff on new tax laws and policies.

The URA has also mobilized different banks to start deploying Point-of-Sale Visa Machines at different courts to enable quick payments of bail deposits, court fees and fines by the court users.

"I am informed that people will soon be able to make these payments through Mobile Money. Once all these systems are in place, court staff will not have reason to touch money meant for court payments. These are results of our strategic partnership with URA," Hon. Justice Katureebe.

Hon. Justice Gadenya Paul Wolimbwa, the in-charge of Judiciary Projects, thanked URA for recognizing the Judiciary as one of its key strategic partners.

Judiciary's Chief Registrar, HW Esta Nambayo, said it was such a great honor to be recognized by URA and it was the reason a special occasion to handover the award the Chief Justice had to be arranged.

Judiciary staff present at the awards ceremony included the Hon. Justice Henry Peter Adonyo(Executive Director, JTI), Mr. Kagole E. Kivumbi (Permanent Secretary), HW Dr.Immaculate Busingye (Registrar, Inspector of Courts), HW Vincent Emmy Mugabo(Registrar Mediation/PRO), HW Boniface Wamala (Private Legal Secretary to CJ), HW Susan Abinyo (Deputy Registrar, Special Duties), and HW Aloysius Natwijuka (PA to CJ), among others.
